BGfL365 and GDPR compliance – 'Your school in the cloud’

Using the Office suite of tools in BGfL 365 – Making the most of Microsoft Cloud in your school

This half day BGfL 365 course can help you work more flexibly, by accessing your school resources online and having the ability to collaborate securely in real time on documents with school staff.  There are huge benefits in moving school documentation into the cloud but it is really important to ensure security, privacy and settings are understood and set appropriately. This course will help you understand this and will help you ensure compliance with principle 6 of GDPR – having appropriate organisational and technical measures to ensure data is processed securely.

Schools continuously handle data but by changing the processes by which this happens could help to eliminate risks. Using cloud services is one option to establish effective processing of data, this recent data breach could have been avoided:

School have apologised after an email meant for staff was reportedly sent to contacts on the parent mail list. http://www.eadt.co.uk/news/suffolk-school-apology-over-pupil-data-breach-1-5509682

As part of the breach management procedures by the school, what actions could they take to prevent this happening in future? - By changing the communication systems in this school to use cloud communications for example through ‘Teams’ would have avoided this accidental email being inadvertently sent to parents instead of staff.  This course will help you understand how to do this effectively.
