 Learning to Lead: Effective Leadership of Primary Computing

 

Middle leaders should be enthusiasts for their subject, good managers and administrators - but to be truly effective they embrace the more challenging characteristics of leadership, which are to do with vision, strategy and a drive towards improvement. This can often be a daunting role, particularly in a subject which is constantly evolving and re-shaping our lives.

Course Aims:

This course will help you to identify the roles and responsibilities of a Computing subject leader in a primary school. Topics will cover:

  • managing systems and processes - Action planning for Computing with links to School Development Plans
  • leading teaching and learning – National Curriculum aims, effective planning, lesson objectives and approaches to assessment, monitoring and record keeping
  • leading and developing staff: leading an effective team for computing in primary schools
  • leading change for improvement: supporting change in schools

Course Outcome:

This course will enable you to:

  • broaden your subject knowledge of the computing curriculum in KS1 & KS2
  • develop as an effective middle leader of Computing
  • review your current practice and resources; begin to implement changes that may be required
  • develop the Computing curriculum in your school, including cross-curricular approaches to the delivery of the computing requirements
  • network with other like-minded subject leaders for computing and share best practice

Pre-requisite:

If available, delegates should bring a copy of any current computing action plans and a copy of the current school development plan.

This course is suitable for current and aspiring subject leaders of computing in primary schools.
