This half day course will cover the use of online collaborative tools to enhance writing skills in the classroom and beyond! The session offers ‘hands on’ experience exploring the J2bloggy and J2e5 tools within the BGfL 365 environment.

What is BGfL 365?

Course Aims:

This course will show you how to embrace the power of collaborative learning, motivate your students to write for a wider audience and meet the computing curriculum programme of study (PoS) - understand computer networks including the internet; how they can provide multiple services, such as the world wide web and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration.

The areas that will be covered in this session include:

  • Understanding why collaborative writing and blogging can make an impact on learning when writing for a real audience
  • Teaching the skills of blogging - a school can choose to publish to the rest of their school or to the rest of the world
  • How to set up, manage and moderate a class blog using J2bloggy
  • Adding a variety of media such as audio, video, interactivity, text and images
  • Recognising the key issues regarding online safety and blogging
  • Understanding online etiquette, ‘how should we behave online’
  • Blogging rules and how to write ‘good’ comments
  • How to deliver the computing curriculum elements in a fun and engaging way

Course Outcome:

At the end of the course:

  • You will understand the implications of online safety when publishing work in blogs and wikis
  • Delegates will understand the advantages of the collaboration tools, J2e5 and J2bloggy together in one suite - which means teachers and pupils could post their wikis directly into blogs
  • It will help you make the most of the BGfL 365 learning environment

The course is aimed at senior leaders, teaching and teaching support staff. 

Pre-requisites:

Basic computer skills are expected.  Please bring your BGfL 365 login details (if you have them), if not, you will be able to use our test environment on the day.
