Rocklands is a very happy and welcoming school and aims to provide the highest quality education for all in a caring, supportive, inclusive and vibrant learning environment. The happiness and success of every child is central to the school’s work where pupils are recognised as unique individuals with specific talents and needs. Rocklands offers a varied and engaging curriculum which is provided by a dedicated team of enthusiastic and hardworking teachers and support staff.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. With this in mind, Deputy Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead, Jane Elliker believes the introduction of using MyConcern to record and manage all safeguarding concerns has been a transformative experience.
Rocklands has been using MyConcern since January 2017 and had previously relied on a paper-based system which was both time-consuming and laborious, sharing information via photocopies, emails or phone calls. In late 2016, Jane attended an Advanced Safeguarding course "along with many Birmingham schools who had used the software and were recommending it. Other options were discussed but the overwhelming majority favoured MyConcern."
"We wanted a solution that was paperless, made information sharing easy and would track the chronology of concerns. A demo was arranged for us and I then attended training provided by Learning Technologies (Link2ICT). The system is so simple to use, no further training was required. I was able to cascade training to everyone else at the school in a half hour session.”
“MyConcern has been a ‘game changer’ for Rocklands. We have always prided ourselves on our approach to safeguarding children but using MyConcern means that ALL staff have access to log incidents and are automatically kept informed of any resulting actions – they no longer have to find a form, write it all out and bring it to me. Staff now proactively share responsibility for safeguarding and are very confident using MyConcern.”
“As the DSL, the software helps me considerably with all aspects of recording and reporting, information sharing is secure, appropriate and easily monitored. When managing concerns, I can contact the appropriate people by adding messages to other members of staff, nurses and social workers. This ensures that we are all working together, as per government policy! With MyConcern being an online system, staff, lunchtime supervisors and outside agencies can login to create or update a concern wherever they are or whenever they need to and only see information relevant to their role and the pupils they are involved with. Ease of access makes a huge difference, for example, one staff member had a concern about a pupil during the holidays. Once logged, the system notified me and I was able to deal with it immediately, informing the social worker straight away. MyConcern makes all this possible!”
“I am also responsible for managing data at the school and so the tracking and reporting functionality available in MyConcern, enables me to easily provide the school governors and headteacher with the safeguarding information they require. Any paperwork which is involved, i just scan and upload the document and it is then linked to the appropriate concern, date-stamped as part of the chronology. At the click of a button, I am able to print complete chronologies or detailed reports in various formats and take to meetings and share with other professionals.”
“Transferring pupils is also so much easier as our main feeder school has MyConcern, pupil records are moved within the system from one school to the other. If the other school does not have MyConcern, even then, all you have to do is click and print.”
“I am very confident at how safe and secure records are and the software comes with a vast amount of useful tools which saves me so much time, I feel so much more confident in my role as DSL. I have been so impressed, I have recommended MyConcern to a number of other schools and have discussed it at the monthly Staffordshire Special School Headteacher Meeting.”
“We have complete confidence that concerns are reported, acted upon and followed up rigorously – meaning that children are placed at the heart of the process. We cannot recommend MyConcern highly enough, schools are certainly welcome to get in touch to see it in action – let’s share good practice!”
